Implementation Services - Project Manager


The role of the Implementation Services Project Manager is to meet the goal of delivering Dynamic customer implementation projects within project constraints. The Project Manager ensures that the project sponsor is satisfied with the outcome of the project. The Project Manager owns and drives the schedule, the deliverables, and the budget for the project. The Project Manager ensures that the right solution is delivered at the right time and that the project sponsor’s expectations are understood and managed throughout the project.


The Role:

Project Management

  1. Track and manage projects, maintain budget and timelines.
    • Facilitate the creation of the project budget by gathering resource requirements from all of the roles on the team.
    • Understand and agree with all resource decisions (hardware, software, and people) and track the actual expenditure against the plan.
  2. Manage master project schedule.
    • Collect all team schedules, validate them, and integrate them into a master schedule that is tracked and reported to the team and the project sponsor.
  3. Drive risk management process.
    • Identify and communicate project risks.
    • Track existing risks and manage their solutions or contingency plans.
  4. Facilitate communication and negotiation within the team.
    • Coordinate tasks between internal team resources and external, customer team resources.
  5. Track progress and manage project status reporting.

Process Assurance

  1. Drive process quality assurance.
    • Ensures that the project team adopts processes that focus on meeting the overall project quality goals, with an emphasis on eliminating sources of inefficiencies.
  2. Define the key project processes to be used by the team and provide advice and guidance to the team on their implementation
  3. Define project protocols and processes in line with the project design.
  4. Provide advice and guidance on effective implementation of the project processes; validate compliance with processes; undertake milestone reviews; monitor compliance; recommend process improvements.

Customer Service

  1. Assist customers with service requests during software implementation.
    • This may include running reports, preparing product deliverables
    • This role typically ends at the conclusion of the implementation when the account transitions to Support.
  2. Track and manage customer service requests during software implementation.
    • This role typically ends at the conclusion of the implementation when the account transitions to Support.
  3. Identify potential new product enhancements based on customer requests and feedback.
    • Document and communicate new product enhancement requests to product development

Administrative Services

  1. Implement project management processes and support the team leads in using them.
    • Ensure the project team implements processes that meet the project design specification defined by project management.
    • Ensure that the project team can operate effectively with the minimum of bureaucracy.
  2. Establish consistent planning framework; assist team leads in planning and scheduling; consolidate team input to create master plan and schedule; establish financial and progress reporting processes.
  3. Support project initiation processes, such as efficient recruitment of team members; manage contractual arrangements with any external vendors; organize team facilities (space, telephones, security access, and so on).
  4. Provide a range of administrative services to support efficient teamwork.
    • Scheduling meetings
    • General procurement
    • Contract management, Statement Of Work, Project Scope
    • Implement risk and issue management processes
    • Maintain the master risk list and action list
    • Generate financial and progress reports
  5. Ensure closure of all administrative systems on project completion.


Skills and Requirements
:

The Project Manager role requires a combination of strong business and administrative skills, and attention to detail with sound experience in project planning and scheduling techniques, as well as a good understanding of the policies and guidelines operative in the organization. A sound understanding of underlying business concepts, implemented in the Voyager software product, is required.

Project Managers shall be technically sound, with a broad base of knowledge and experience and the ability to relate technical issues to the underlying needs of the business. While the project manager may rely on the development and support teams for expertise on the specific technologies being used in the solution, they must be able to grasp the implications of those technical details very rapidly and understand their inter-relationships and their impact on the environment into which the solution will be deployed. The project manager must also be able to discuss those impacts with the customer so as to resolve rapidly any conflicts between the proposed solution and the existing enterprise architecture.

  1. This job typically requires a four year degree in computer science, information systems, business systems management, or a related field.  Equivalent education and experience combined may be accepted.
  2. Must have a minimum of 4 years experience in managing business systems implementation projects, preferably in the Healthcare Insurance industry.
  3. Must be willing to travel at least 50%. 
  4. Must have strong project management skills.  PMI certification (or equivalent) is required.
  5. Must possess strong business and technical writing abilities (certificate is helpful).
  6. Must possess effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  7. Familiarity with the healthcare insurance industry is highly desirable but not required.  Equivalent experience in managing software implementation projects for full suite business management systems will be considered.
